An open letter to OmegaVerb and IB

So, the two of you would like to know why I saddled OV with the "Snob" moniker? Why I cast my lot in with the majority of the board to proclaim his bitchdom far and wide? Let's investigate, shall we?

Let's start with what a snob is:

Right here, right now, I don't think I really need to go any further in explaining why I am justified in labeling OV as a snob. But, fuck it...I've got some time.

When I first started posting on SC in 99, I didn't think much ill towards OV, I don't even think he was using that nic then..anyway..there were countless other personalities to smack with...Mr. Mike, caddie, Big Daddy in DC, Blackula, etc. However, I started to notice there was a dude that had little to no game, yet kept trying to drop snide comments in threads. Big deal, everyone was like that. However, there was an air of a pompous brat behind this poster. We never addressed each other head on, save a few driveby volleys that meant nothing.

Time went on and the dude began to increase the level of his brand of sarcasm, that was less sarcastic than bitter and we began to hear of his woman problems. The persona he was portraying didn't jive with the twiddled cunt his true self was trying to expose. Having set himself above others, he then started to reach out to the board, offering Simsex and fantasy games to everyone he wished to have as friends. His world was spiraling out of control.

The tree-topper for OV, was when he decided to C & P the script to the Matrix, and then substitute SC nicknames for characters in the movie...and in a desperate cry for help, dubbed himself "The One." Not only did he self-gloss himself this pretentious name for the story, but he carried it along with him as his descriptor on subsequent boards.

It was during this time that OV decided to emulate the maddening style of one of the posters that personified snobbery...Innocent Bystander. And the rest, folks, is history.

And speaking of Innocent Bystander, let's also look at the widely held belief that OV is IB....which I don't buy for a second. Instead, they are more like a Bizarro Highlights comic titled "Goofus and Goofer."

So there you have it, you should never call OV and IB the same poster...it is clear that they both suck in their own unique, pompous ways.

As for OV and IB, I enjoy the banter. They add spice to the board. Both of them make topics hot.

Question is, would anyone of us be able to have a "real life friendship" with either of these two?

My guess is yip. We all come across as something which we are not in here. It is a safety shield. We can hide behind a personna, let our hair down and let loose.

Am I sticking up for either of them? Hell no. But I understand where they are coming from. I think that they play the game well. I would be the first to jump on either of them when they make a stupid post, just as I expect anyone else to pile on me when I do the same.

1. OmegaVerb was my first name in SmackChat. Started March 28, 2000. I've never changed nics. Who did else you think I was?

2. For being somebody that had, in your words, "little to no game" why wasn't I beat on like jeffie? Isn't that what Smack is about? Best on those that deserve it ... obviously the consensus was that I didn't do anything to merit negative attention ... because almost nobody called me out.

webdog gave me the title "The One". I wasn't even in the original parody. But when I ran it past a couple of friends, one suggested that because it was my 4000th post, I should be in it. On a failing message board, it was, quite possibly, the best thing on it.

It even spawned a thread in THE, asking if it was worthwhile reading. Resounding "Yes" was the answer.

So my "tree-topper" was something that still garners opinions some eight months later ... Not bad on my behalf.
